What’s the importance of having a tutor or coach with experience in neurodivergent learning?

Neurodivergent individuals, with conditions such as autism (ASD), ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and other specific learning difficulties, have unique strengths and challenges that affect the way they learn and interact with the world. Having a tutor or coach who understands this can make a significant difference to their journey, empowering them to reach their full potential.

At Illuminate Inclusion, our home and learning support services provide:

  1. A safe, supportive and understanding environment where the individual feels understood, validated and accepted.

  2. Adapted teaching methods to optimise the learning experience for the individual.

  3. Tailored support and strategies that cater to the individual’s specific needs.

  4. An adapted communication style to suit the individual’s way of processing information, ensuring effective understanding takes place.

  5. Emotional support to help build confidence, self-esteem and resilience.

What’s included in a coaching programme?

UNDERSTANDING MYSELF

Suitable for adults and children aged 11+.

This programme focuses on understanding your own neurodivergent profile, whether you have a diagnosis or not. You will explore what it means to be neurodivergent and how the way you think and experience the world affects different areas of your life, such as work/school, family life, social relationships and personal wellbeing.

Our coaching programmes are all designed to help you recognise the impact that your neurodivergence has on particular aspects of your life and to support you to implement practical strategies to overcome the challenges you are experiencing.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTION SKILLS

Suitable for adults and children aged 15+.

Executive functions are essential for all the tasks we carry out each day and are something many neurodivergent people have difficulty with. This programme focuses on understanding your executive function profile, including your skills in working memory, cognitive flexibility and self-regulation, and developing strategies to help you cope better.

PARENT/FAMILY COACHING

Suitable for adults and children aged 13+.

This programme is designed for parents and siblings of a neurodivergent young person. You will explore the challenges your neurodivergent family member may be facing and find ways to communicate with them more effectively. Sessions can also consider how to implement changes to the home environment to make it work for everyone.

STUDY AND REVISION SKILLS

Suitable for young people aged 11-25.

This programme focuses on study and revision skills for young people who are experiencing challenges with homework, essays or exam preparation. You will explore the barriers and challenges that are affecting you, based on your own neurodivergent profile, and develop techniques and strategies that will enable you to succeed.

All of our coaching packages can all be tailored to suit your individual needs. For more information about any of tutoring, coaching or home support services, get in touch today.
